It depends what you're after, really. I'd generally (IME) say that people in the north are more friendly and more down to earth. They also generally have nicer accents. (IMO)
However, I'd like to live in Cornwall for the beaches and the ancient sites. But nobody ever gigs in Cornwall.
Birmingham is very central, which makes it easier to get everywhere, but that's about all it has going for it. (IMO)
