The stuff on BOC over the last few days, and a chance remark from Squid elsewhere, made me recall a discussion that me, wychburyman and wychburywoman were having the pub a while back. Do you think the right logo/symbol can increase a band's chances of success? As evidence, I offer the BOC: http://littlesun.canalblog.com/cultlogo.jpg AC/DC: http://entimg.msn.com/i/pro/acdc/logo.jpg and (naturally) Motorhead: http://sowhat.metpage.org/graphics/logo_motorhead.jpg Anymore for anymore?

>Do you think the right logo/symbol can increase a >band's chances of success? Success at what? Not really, every dork hard rock band in the 70's had a "logo" and 99% of them never made it. Would be interesting though, what was the first rock band "logo"? The "Beatles" with the stylized "T"? The Byrds?

As my friend used to say when rock band "logos" became prominent, "how lo can you go?"

"Success at what?" Pushing their message, selling records, getting punters to gigs, whatever... What else would it mean? "Not really, every dork hard rock band in the 70's had a "logo" and 99% of them never made it." Which kind of supports my suggestion then - the 99% of bands you are thinking of clearly had the wrong logo or symbol.

>Pushing their message, selling records, getting >punters to gigs, whatever... >What else would it mean? What I meant was that a low point in rock was achieved when a band put more thought into their logo than into the music. Lots of guys in High school bands would sit in class all day designing their band logo until the "X" in "Paradox" looked like a dragon breathing fire etc..... But their music was moronic deep purple wannabe dogfood.
