G of 4

>Admittedly their third and last LP is pretty bad

? I'm confused. Their third album was the excellent SONGS OF THE FREE. Their last album (which was their sixth album, not counting eps & live album) was SHRINKWRAPPED, which I didn't think was bad at all.

Even if they had released a dozen wretched albums it could never undo the magnificence of ENTERTAINMENT! That achievement alone seals their place in the book of Great Rock Bands for me.

Please post about the Gof4 show! It's all the original members for the first time since '82 or so, right?

The Cale original (which I first heard on a jukebox if you can imagine) was originally only on the b-side of "Mercenaries (Ready For War)" but it's now a bonus track on the CD version of SABOTAGE. But y'all knew that right?

Apologies - should have been more specific there. I was referring to the three albums made by the original 4-piece line-up. 'Fraid I can't agree with your assessment of "Songs Of The Free" - it's not a complete disaster, but for me it suffers from overproduction and relatively mediocre songs and as such is nowhere near in the same league as the first two.

Haven't heard the subsequent three albums but according to a mate of mine who owns them, "Hard" is really shit.

If you ask me, though, the best recorded example of their output is the "Peel Sessions" compilation on Strange Fruit as it's rawer and has more feel than the studio albums. In fact I'm hoping this is what they'll sound like live.

And what's more, if anyone mentions the fucking Cure in the same breath as them, I'll make them stick their tongues up my skinny white ass!

Ah... but can you guess who my other current alter-ego is (and it ain't Scarlett Johannsen anymore, cos my psychiatrist successfully managed to scare her away)?

I was thinking of reviewing the Factrix Commemoration 2xCD on Unsung, but haven't gotten around to it. So different from the rest of the whole 'industrial' pack -- seemed to meld noise w/ psychedelia the same way Television melded Psychedelia w/ punk.
