I think all four members of Spandau Ballet ruined them, with the exception of their first single they were shite!

...I think 'to cut a long story short' was their debut wasn't it?

Them and those bloody Bare Naked Ladies! Of course everybody talks of They Might Be Giants w/ reverance, and they may actually be good song writers for all I know, but the vocals are incredibly unlistenable at best.

Actually the first album wasn't bad, as even when they were breaking from post-punk bleakness there was still some nasty guitar in the mix. Except the vocals were still embarrasingly fay. The only other album I heard was True, which is crap except for "True" and "Gold", not that either are particularily essential...

I thought Duran Duran were much worse. At least Spandau had class.

Yeah, it seems -- even though I like metal, mind -- alot of metal has 'cookie-monster' vocals or else it's castrato-type stuff. (The latter annoys me more...) I've managed to get used to it over the yrs, but I long for a metal band with a truly good singer.

I just remembered that last night before seeing Emil Beauleau I was at my buddy Randy's place and ironically we were talking about the most annoying punk singer. Randy was saying he thought the singer for the Crucifucks was the most annoying. I told him I found Beki Bondage (Vice Squad) and Poly Styrene the most annoying. Randy said "That's just 'cos you don't like women". I said the only female punk singers I liked were Siouxie Sioux and Patti Smith. Although I should've added Pauline Murray...

Billy Mackenzie. Dead he may be, but sorry...with a tortured, tuneless row like that emanating from his tonsils, I can't get emotive. Simply the worst pop singer of all time.

(Shame, cos I quite liked some of the Associates' tunes)

I've never heard the Doc in full hardcore flow, just his solo lp Patricia. On that you can hear a pronounced lisp
which had me wondering how he could handle faster speed stuff, I've now got Darby Crash in my headphones and his voice ain't that great. Probably fits this music ok enough, has got some aggression to the delivery but he sounds like he's got a mouthful of snot or sumfin.

I really liked Patricia by the way, great narrative somewhat country influenced stuff. Was it ever released on cd?
