Thanks for the Pozzo tip - I'll check 'em out.
The first Hatfields album had, particularly on vinyl, a very low mastering that rendered the many quiet bits almost inaudible (on my lowly system anyway) in places. The CD is much clearer, but heard side-by-side with 'Rotters' it still sounds recessed. I think the mega guitar blast that is 'Gigantic Land Crabs In Earth Takeover Bid' would've been even more awesome with a clearer production. 'Rotters' is much more in yer face, methinks. But what the hell, they're two virtually perfect records whatever the knob-twiddling.
I wish Julian would reassess the Canterbury Scene. To each his own I know, but I can't help feel he's really missing something.
By the way, Caravan's Eclectic label is reissuing the first two Egg albums on CD imminently. Anyone put off by prohibitively expensive Japanese imports need hold back no longer. My order's already in.
