Hmmm, deja vu, that's exactly what happened to me....obviously our females think the same way.

Hmm...much of this past week was dominated by Eno stuff..."Taking Tiger Mountain", "Before and After Science", even pulled out "Music for Airports" for a while. And I think the collab with David Byrne "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" fits here, too.

Aside of that, Radiohead's "OK Computer" kept popping up.

Other than that, was busy as fuckall working on setting equipment up to do some recording and working on the rebuild of the Sal-Mar Construction instrument for some seminars on improvisation at Illinois. Lots of time in the car listening to the MP3 shuffl-o-matic.

Re: Rush

I do like a fair amount of the 2nd and 3rd albums too (Fly By Night, Caress of Steel) it's 2112 that has always turned me off the most. Kind of a dumb concept, rendered in a silly way! Like I was listening to some of Aphrodite's Child "666" yesterday -- now THAT'S what I call a prog rock concept album! Spellbinding mystical weirdniss!

I have a soft spot for Rush's "pop hits" from the 80's like "Spirit of Radio" too. I go back and forth on thinking the tune "Free Will" is either brilliant or stupid. ;-)

The first 4 or 5 Van Halen albums seem to get progressively more ridiculous too, hitting a low (or high?) with "Diver Down."

Dave Roth brings the shtick and the schmaltz.

btw I heard Sammy Hagar has just rejoined the band.

Vital! 1978
Mar 29, 2004, 18:06
Oh please do finish that Van der Graaf review -- I find that live album strangely compelling. It's got a weird out-of-time 1978, here's a prog dinosaur band, "so five years ago" vibe -- but the fans who were there seem to love it (sounds like a small crowd!) and it's a unique record in the VDGG oevre -- their only one dominated by loud electric guitar (played by Hamill hisself)! A reaction to punk rock? Maybe, maybe not.

Checked out this Vangelis "Heaven & Hell" and some Aphrodite's Child. "666" is hot stuff! I need to get that one. "H&H" was pretty good too, never thought of Vangelis as a composer of "religious music" but both of these really are that.

Harmonia - Musik Von

The Cars - or was that last week?

Stooges - post-"Raw Power" odds & sods, "I Got A Right" and "Kill City" etc.

Sat down and finally learned to play the verses as well as choruses to "Rock You Like A Hurricane" by Der Scorpions -- now I need to figure out the lyrics!

Not a lot else that I can recall.

Recent driving around soundtracks: Grand Funk Railroad, Meat Puppets, Can, Mad Professor (all mixtapes)
