>Goldfinger- Magazine

and don't forget the soft cell bond numbers! (croons) "you only live twice"

and talking of SC, what about the version of ghost rider he performed on switch in the early 80's with clint ruin. fab stuff!

>The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot- Associates

Billy did loads...

Boys keep swinging / groovin' with my bloe / green tambourine etc and, best of all, (but tragically the bad luck song) on sulk...gloomy sunday.

His version of never turn your back on mother earth is pretty good, too, even if it's not much different to the original sparks version. just good to hear billy do it.

we'll turn a blind eye to heart of glass, shall we ; )

>Wild is the Wind- David Bowie

His version of Verlaine's Kingdom Come & Nite Flights are among his better cover versions imo, though my fave has to be the very simple but effective Sorrow!

>After Hours- REM (the Velvets song)

And strange (wire)

>24 Hours- Low (Joy Division cover- see 'Transmission' ep)

And their version of the smiths last night i dreamt that somebody loved me, which i played only yesterday! like it a lot.

>Love Will Tear Us Apart- Swans

or paul, cough, young ; )

>Like a Virgin- Teenage Fanclub

ciccone!!!

>Can't Get You Out of My Head- Flaming Lips

as in ELO??

>September Song- The Young Gods

I'm rather partial to lou's MOR treatment of it myself!

>D'Ya Think I'm Sexy?- Revolting Cocks

one i mentioned. awesome!!

one that's just come to me...

the soft cell 'hendrix medley'. think back, guys & gals - was there anyone less likely (on paper!) to record a hendrix medley in the early 80's than almond & ball!!!

my kids got me nyc by the gossip for xmas. live, wild and *very* lo-fi, it includes a version of i wanna be your dog...

Marc Ribot - The Wind Cries Mary
(or his entire CD "Saints" which includes versions of Beatles tunes next to Albert Ayler tunes and so on, all artfully redigested picasso-stlye)

Hi -- New user here.

The grungy cover version of Gimme Shelter is almost certainly by the Goo Goo Dolls, which is the only group I can think of that would have done a grungy version in or around 1989.

Other versions of that song from approximately that time period were done by Inspiral Carpets (1989), Kingmaker (1993), Little Angels (1993), New Model Army featuring Tom Jones (1993; think so? :) ), Rick Blaze and the Ballbusters (1994), The Black (1994), Thunder (1993), or Voice of the Beehive with Jimmy Summerville (1993; hmmm).

Their 'Rose Garden Funeral of Sores' has much more power than the original too!
