Actually...

...it's fairly easy. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who'd more overrated. If you've heard Beefheart, Partch, & Jimmy Scott you've pretty much heard his whole bag of tricks, and his lyrics are inane, beat-inspired laundry lists of "weird" things/situations. His main appeal seems to be to yuppies looking for something quirky and intellectual to have in their collections to freak out their friends and look smart. That so many people with otherwise fine tastes buy in to it is a mystery to me.

No offense...

this has been a fun read......i agree with many and those who strive to "call out" the average and mundane. Some more funny crap bands:

circus of power
little caesar
boomtown rats
the babys
Recess (a very "full house" 80s christian band)
miami sound machine
billy squire
eddie murphy (my girl wants to party all the time)
michael mccdonald
anne murray
faith no more
the nice
whoever sings that nu nu nu nu HEY! song for baseball games.
bachman turner overdrive
george thoregood (however thats spelled)
queen (yes i just don't like queen!)
pentangle
bob seger
all patriotic country artists
cars
survivor

It bites stole a Genesis keyboard riff for Calling all the heroes. I quite enjoyed it when I was a teeny. What annoyed me at the time was The Thompson Twins.

I agree whole-heartedly.Waits' insistence on singing in that forced, fog-horn bellow is grating in the extreme.
