Is apparently still practiced among-st certain 'folks' on their 7 year old daughters.... Cultural diversity and all that. And yes.... I know, 'who the fuck am I to question these things'....

Here's a case where we agree - FGM is a sick practice whether it be done in the West, East, or anywhere in between. I think the desire to not "offend" and accept every culture as "equally valid" has gotten out of hand. Some things are barbaric, no matter how long of a tradition they represent.

While I agree with such a stance in principle, I think it some cases, the wrongness of an action is so apparent that attempts at political correctness are counter-productive.

Only ever met one person who's tried to defend female genital mutilation as a cultural prerogative (and that was IRL, not online). Needless to say I told them where to get off.

Seems the politically correct New York Times prefers to refer to the practice as "Female Genital Cutting", since "Female Genital Mutilation" is a "culturally loaded term" that "widens the chasm" between "Western (and some African) advocates who campaign against the practice and the people who follow the rite" http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/04/24/new-york-times-scraps-female-genital-mutilation-for-being-culturally-loaded-term.html And here is the original comment from the NYT, in case people decide that "Fox is not a reliable source"...
