But Hadrian's wall is still just a man made {imaginary} line in the sand across the same island. {are you guys still Pict's?}
Eventually you will all have to come to some kind of common terms. The UK has had well over a thousand years to do that.
How long will you {genetically identical} guys continue to fight among-st yourselves?

We still try to keep Iron Age/Pictish culture by looking after carved stones and their hillforts etc something I think is worthwhile and educational. Sadly some would disagree with me that protecting heritage is a good thing :-( Not being a supporter of fighting or intimidation, unlike the bowler hatted unionists, I don't fight with anybody.

What's using a term like a 'bowler hatted unionist' Drew if it's not intended to 'fight' with someone?
You do know over 2.1m Scots decided to stay with the union?
Are there 2.1m bowler hats?
Really?

I personally was very surprised. I'll be voting for Jeremy Corbyn in the hope there can be a coalition to out the Tories.
Let's make it happen ...

Hahahaha! Better than getting nuked by a China/Iran/North Korea/Russian coalition – that’s the direction Orange Boy is taking you buddy :-) Or getting fleeced into oblivion by a failed Euro and a failing EU political project. We might sink for a bit (though personally I don’t think we will) but this ‘shit-stained isle’ punches way above its weight in the intentional arena and will punch even higher once the shackles of the EU are shaken off.

As for British politicians; there are few, in any of the parties here, with the diplomatic calibre of Theresa May. I’m not a Conservative supporter but she’ll get my vote this time around; the alternatives are unthinkable. Jeremy Corbyn is living in a socialist cloud cuckoo-land; his policies would bankrupt the country before the end of his first term as prime minister. Diane Abbott as Home Secretary? I think not, the woman can barely string two words together to make a coherent sentence. Paul Nuttall of UKIP would take us down a nationalistic back alley with a brick wall at the end. Or how about Mr Wet Blanket himself, Tim Farron, leader of the LibDems? Cathy Newman on Channel 4 News asked him repeatedly yesterday if he thought homosexuality was a sin. He refused to confirm or deny that it was, saying only that as a Christian he wasn’t prepared to get into a theological debate about it. And as for Nicola Sturgeon (also yesterday) she had the gall to accuse May of putting her party before the country. For feck's sake! That’s what Sturgeon does every day of the fecking week! The hypocrisy of the woman! (forgive the double use of the F word ;-) How about a coalition of all or some of the above? Oh what fun that would be... not...

You’re right about one thing though; what you’re seeing on this thread (and others) is, “Pretty much what Head Heritage has become.” It’s mostly opinion based, lacks careful, let alone critical, analysis of issues, and with a hole in the ‘Facts’ Bucket’ as big as a dinner plate.

My word! You've come a long way from that anarchist poet-painter I knew as a naive teenager. A couple of things in your post I feel the need to mention - as I know you are a stickler for accuracy. I think you meant 'international' not 'intentional'. And if you are going use the F word, use it. Feck is only really effective when used by an Irish person. I'm not going to comment on any of the other stuff except to say I strongly disagree.

Also, as I have no way of contacting you, I have some sad news from your Swindon Art School days. A mutual friend, Jan White (married to artist Ken White) died suddenly on 17th January this year. It was a great shock as the last time I saw her she was smiling as she always did and didn't mention she was ill. She was a life-long Labour supporter who, after she stopped working as a teacher, worked unpaid with refugees and asylum seekers. I attended her funeral on a bleak desolate day and resolved to spend what's left of my unimportant life trying to make a difference to our to the way we treat those less fortunate and of course the environment. As writer David Mitchell said of his novel Bone Clocks - we are defecating into the well-spring of our existence. This 'snap' election is the opportunity to make a difference - our vote is all we have.

June, I share so many of your views about politics but I have to disagree with 2 things you say:

1. Please don't deprive me of the term "feck". It's a brilliant way of filling a gap between drat and fuck, where appropriate, and the Irish should be proud to have given it to the world.

2. Our vote is all we have but I can't bring myself to provide a vote to a party that isn't willing to join with others to oppose what we both view as a disaster. If/when it does, great, but unless it does our votes aren't going to be "all we have" they're nothing.

I first voted Labour at the age of 7 (honestly!) and ever since but I've just become a paid up Lib Dem.

Hi Nigel, I was just being argumentative as you know I must sometimes. Its a personal thing, I try to not use the word fuck too often - inelegant at my age. It does slip out occasionally though.

I accept your Point 2, as I always do listen to what you have to say. Labour for me though, with all its flaws and media assassination - that is where my vote is going.

Logging off now - carpe diem, as someone, somewhere else said.

inelegant at my age.....

Nah, if it's OK for Billy Connolly and Chaucer, what's not to like?!
