Downing St says it's just "a populist gesture". Not "the will of the people" then...

THis is the one that I have problems with. The focus of the petition being the temporary discomfort to the royal. Surely there are more salient reasons like the guy being a fascist fuck? But if May is already bending over to accommodate him, maybe they needed something to attach the reason to. THese are Interesting Times we're fated to live through. Hope the world can keep on with this shite going on.

Ah the focus is such because it's already been 'agreed' that he'll be visiting. But it's the type of visit that could still be tweaked. Something that might be possible to do with lots of signatures. Whereas The Powers That Be are never going to uninvite him. I saw an interesting comment by reader James Boag on the guardian article about this; it says "Once the trump petition reaches 1269502 what does this mean for Ms May ? At that point she will ignore more people over Trump than she's using as reason for hard brexit !" an interesting point :)

I agree. I really don't get it when people object to threads going off topic. They should meander, like a picturesque river...

Interesting to note that the petition with the 4th highest amount of signatures on the Government website is: 463,501 - Stop all immigration and close UK borders until ISIS defeated.
