Hey, Moon Cat, I'm moving up here from the "Escapology" thread 'cause it's getting a bit huge. Good luck with your "leap" and here's hoping it pays off for you in all the right ways. I got laid off last year, and the three months of severance-pay-supported bliss was just what the doctor ordered. It could be a bit dicey for you in some ways, but I bet it'll pay off in the long run. "Life close to the bone is where it's sweetest" - Thoreau. And pick up a copy of Henry Miller's "Plexus" at the local library for some good unemployment yucks.

Many thanks for your well wishes and concerns.
Fear not. If the shit hits the fan I'll do some part time stuff or something. I'm lucky in that I have paid for my flat so I'm not gonna end up in a cardboard box just yet.
I just felt that if I'm making myself ill with frustration etc. a definite change is needed, and I want to do this while I've got the drive and inclination. Hopefully off to the seclusion of a small village in Wales next week to start phase one of my plan for global domination.
Will keep people posted
