Its at war with liberal democracy. 9/11 was the most successful terrorist attack ever as it succeeded in its aims and made the west suspend its own values or made them selective - whether you were a Muslim or not.

This latest attack, like the attack on Lee Rigby, is targeted at making the west further abandon its own liberal values - especially in light of the recent heart searching over the role of security services in the wake of 9/11. These terrorists are not stupid, their campaign is far more subtle than is being admitted. To engage in their violence, to target Muslims or treat them differently or with an inherent suspicion is to hand the terrorists victory.
