"Meanwhile, the UN's Food and Agriculture
Organisation is predicting that this year's total
world harvest will fall for the fifth year in
succession, while the global population continues
to grow. Food stocks are falling well below critical
levels and prices are soaring. The escalating
crises will add urgency to a new round of
international negotiations on combating global
warming under way in New Delhi."

And what happens when the amount of energy,
fertiliser and pesticides available to the world's
farmers starts to drop off (as i believe it will do in
a few years)? We are producing and consuming
more energy now than at any time in history and
it's not enough to support us. What with global
climate change, fish stock annihilation and a
looming energy crisis, something needs to be done
real damn quick.
