A group of creationists has gained approval from the Department for Education (DfE) to open a Free School from 2013. The group are behind the plans for Exemplar – Newark Business Academy, a revised bid from the same people who proposed Everyday Champion’s Academy last year. Everyday Champion’s Academy, which was formally backed by Everyday Champions Church, was explicitly rejected due to concerns surrounding the teaching of creationism. The British Humanist Association (BHA) has expressed deep concern at the Government choosing to fund a creationist group.

This is my home town. Neglected, forgotten. Established schools starved of funding. The middle classes sending their kids to Grammar Schools in neighbouring Lincolnshire. A cycle of ever lowering expectations firmly established. This is nothing less than a betrayal of a fundamental ideal of post war England (surely Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with their own parliaments, are not so venal, so... cuntish), an unforgivable insult to the intelligence of the nation. Geoffrey Prime, if you are still around, explain this to me, please.

This school will fail. That is not in any doubt. But it is soaking up funds that would otherwise ensure that my children don't have to sit with buckets in their classroom when it rains.
