Eight women who had relationships with five undercover cops are suing the police. It includes two cops not named before, and three who had relationships with Mark Kenedy, who's always said he only had sex with two activists. It's brilliant how they've done it - no splashing themselves across the press for money, no going for their predatory cops individually. Instead, by going anonymously they emphasise the way the cops invaded their personal lives; by going collectively they demolish the lie that relationships were forbidden and Kennedy was one rogue officer; and by suing the Met as an institution they go for the real villains and maximise the chance of having real impact on policing of activists. A superb, dignified, principled and brave stand. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/dec/16/lovers-undercover-officers-sue-police

Despite the press focus on sexual assualt, the women suing for long term relationships with undercover cops are bringing a case for many different crimes committed against them including deceit, misfeasance in public office and negligence as well as the Human Rights of protection from inhumane and degrading treatment, and respect for private and family life, including the right to form relationships without unjustified interference by the state. Jesus Christ. This is awful, but perhaps not entirely unexpected. If that had happened to me I would exact my revenge.....I really hope that these women get a result. Let us know how this turns out, won't you?

Good luck to 'em. As you say, a clever way to go about it. Hope it pays off.

Aye, my husband had fun with a couple of undercover cops in the nineties. Worked out what they were.....but they can be very efficient. Grrrr.
