I don't have friends like these I'm sure, do you. It makes you wonder whether he not only doesn't realise being seen with such people is bad as a career move, but also it makes you speculate whether he didn't realise at the time that most ordinary people would actually consider it unacceptable (no doubt his friends will put it down to people having no sense of "humour").
