I think there'll be a lot of posturing and sabre rattling but I'm not sure either the US or the UK can afford, financially or politically, another war unless they get support from other (major) nations, which seems unlikely at the moment.

I think its pretty straight forward. Is there oil involved, and if so would a future government look favourably on us ("we give you plenty cheap price") if we had been seen to have "helped " them into power under the auspices of a pro-democracy initiative.If the answer is yes then I reckon its gonna be sooner rather than later.As to whether we can afford it, I sometimes wonder what the cuts are really about, sorting out national debt or bank rolling a huge international smash and grab raid on the middle eastern oil industry.In for a penny, in for a pound.

I doubt Obama will launch a new war during election year. Even though wars can be vote-winners (how messed up are we?) I get the feeling America is suffering from war fatigue at the moment.
I do think a confrontation between Iran and Israel is on the cards over the next few years though, and if it escalates beyond a couple of targeted strikes at Iranian nuclear facilities then America will probably get dragged into the mayhem.
