2 for 1

I just got back from the local and Tuesday night is 2 for 1 special night - basically buy a meal and get another one free or buy a meal and it will cost you 50%.

On the board were about 12 main dishes all meat based plus one veggie Brocolli, Cheesy Pasta Bake.

There were fish, beef, pork, lamb, chicken and turkey dishes and some of them were really tempting.

I ended up with a packet of Ready Salted Crisps and they were not half-price!

mmmm!

Shrimp, I've been pondering this one since my recent revival of veggi/vegan lifestyle. Socialising is the WORST for us. One possibility is to ask for the set meat meal, minus the meat and double the veg. Let me speak to the chef! At least if we do that the message might get through and pubs/eateries will begin giving us a choice. All too often the only veggie options are bland frozen affairs lurking in cheese sauce, which is useless for vegans of course.

You are an inspiration Shrimpmeister!

But eating out for a veggie is much easier now than it was about a decade ago. At least there usually is at least one veggie option on most menus these days. That didn't used to be the case. Also, the veggie option is now often pretty good if you're fortunate enough to get somewhere with a chef-with-a-clue who's put a bit of thought in to it. It isn't just endless cauliflower cheese anymore. Last Christmas on Boxing day I went out for dinner with my parents and brother and they had turkey for the second day running, when I had this gorgeous vegetables en croute in a delicious sauce. Their turkey was overcooked and dry and they were all envious of what I had on my plate. A great moment of veggie Schadenfreude! The situation is improving, as the demand is there and increasing, so take heart!

I guess not living near a city has something to do with my dilemma, these little old places! Bless them. A veggie friend of mine asked what vegetarian meals were on offer at our local restaurant, as there were none listed on the menu. The waitress scuttled off, and after much mumbling and deliberating with the chef, returned to say 'How about salmon!'

I guess there's room for improvement.
