Someone recently posted an article on bear cruelty. They have been farmed in cages for their bile in china since an explosion in demand for dubious medical practices.
Good news!...
'Chinese authorities recently signed an historic pact to rescue 500 captive bears from bear farms within the next five years and take the lead in eliminating farms across Asia. '

Well, spotted B of Morfe. The grizzly facts don't bear thinking about. There'll be trouble bruin over this 'un.
But seriously folks....this is always a troubled area. You have thousands of years of a culture that is totally different to ours that does things we feel are morally reprehensible and yet who are we to judge? The West knows best?
Having said that though, from where I'm standing I can't see how on EARTH, the use of things like Tigers claws, bones, knobs etc. can still be justified as medicines, no matter how hard we "try" to understand.
I don't wanna tread on anybody's cultural tootsie, but if it's a choice between a big stripey cats ( and bears too!) life and Peking's piles or something, then stick to the creams please. Yeesh the Human Rights issue is sticky enough over there!

FREE TIBET more like, You're right Lord Lucan. Judgemental or not, I joined the Free Tibet Campaign 2 years back, and was APPALLED, yet not suprised, at Tony Blair's shrinking, smiling avoidance (squashing)of public dissent at Jiang Zemin's visit to the UK.
Not suprising when in 1998 he presided at business investment signings with between Britain and China, worth over $830 million.
Bastards all. Rather glib statement, but I HATE POLITICS, it operates through a system of dark alleys and subterfuge, under cover of a system of lighting that enables the perpetrators to say their way clear, yet not the layman.
