Dunno what to make of this. I really appreciate the sentiment, yeah the link between mental illness and violence is exaggerated, and yep the mentally ill are many times more likely to be the victims of violence.
But, well, I used to be violent before I learned to develop ways to control my bipolar condition. Also, I wasn't always abusing drugs or tanking up on alcohol (but that did help throughout my late teens to cope). In a manic phase (before I managed to control it) I wasn't there at all, I had no control. I was however as likely to lash out as I was to have hallucinations and start climbing the roof of a building and yelling at people below. I was unpredictable.
I'd like to know how many people with mental illness, particularly bipolar conditions, that they surveyed for this were on some prescribed medications.

These studies seem always to compare everyone with the Swedes, and only a tiny proportion of them at that, and claim it to be 'conclusive'.
Ach suppose that's Uni-bloody-versities for you.
