Are these sites always reliabe? Been reading a book recently about all sorts of internet shenanigans, things I never knew existed like 'google bombing' and 'splogs' and the like. The Red Cross were standing in the local high street the other day with donation buckets, and I donated that way. Infact, I think it's maybe better going to their web site, if that's how you want to do it. I always hope they are genuine though, bit I'm very wary of things that ain't part of the fabric, so to speak. x |

The green token Charity contest meter at Waitrose is always an eye opener. I always go for an animal charity first, as there is no Govt funding. I have real problems giving to Charities where I believe it is the duty of the NHS through general taxation to fund. Wounded Soldiers charities I have problem about as it is the duty of the nation to support them. I think the Haig Fund is a 100 year old con, it has long been dropped from the centre of the Red Poppy. I then give to things like local kids sporting activities, save the playing field and stuff like that. |

Didn't these dudes have a big part in veto'ing that proposition to make whale-hunting legal recently? I know I signed that petition when it appeared in my spam-box a few months back.

Yes, the 'poppy fund' is pure bunkum now. They treated my dad like shit, a WW2 veteran, who after years of a bit of help at Xmas, which made him feel quite important and appreciated, was suddenly told 'we need to keep our funds for other conflicts'. We know what that means. And the BBC didn't want to air an appeal for Gaza, 'case it looked 'political'. Yet, every single presenter, probably even the Blue Peter dogs, are wearing poppies every feckin' year. x |

Ah, not BBC. See BBC get the gig for the cenotaph thingie too. Although I think Paul Merton refused one year, or something like that. I hate feeling this way about this, my dad used to weep about it all. Those left from WW2 will be in the lower hundreds if yer lucky. Can see some cynical rebranding here. :-( x
