Well, it's started. They are about to live their dream at last. They've had to wait 62 years, and now it begins. Privatisation. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/7903264/GPs-could-hand-billions-of-NHS-funds-to-private-companies-to-manage.html http://www.publicservice.co.uk/news_story.asp?id=13572 Try not to get ill. Or Old. Or both. Or disabled, or.............

But not in Scotland, Health is devolved so we can look after it ourselves whilst the SNP are in control. During next years Scottish election I hope the people of Scotland take revenge on all the British parties.

With all the tedious drivel that's eminating, I am finding myself increasingly yet very reluctantly drawn to the idea of dropping off from the current set up. I just wish there was an alternative to the SNP to realise that, because it's a one party race, and we don't need that sort of thing. Round here, there have been four new dentists opened in the last year, all accepting NHS patients (my last on decided she was 'going private', and I could 'stay if I wanted' sort of thing). So me and my teeth are doing very well right now. We've also got a brand new hospital, one of the smartest in Europe, it seems. Of course the two it replaces were barely standing. I think Cameron said to Salmond, something like, 'we won't cut yer grant *this* year' so what happens beyond that? x

All good points Sanshee, but up here in Aberdeenshire, Moray and the Highlands some of these things that city dwellers take forgranted are considered are luxury. The only party that even comes close to looking after our interests is the SNP (Moray and Banff & Buchan have always been SNP strongholds) who have always been fairly good concerning local issues e.g fishing (in my area)You just needed to look at the Tory party manifesto cover which claimed it was for everybody in Britain. The Western Isles, Shetlands and Orkneys weren't even on it. As for Labour they said they'd defend Scotland from the Tories yet another lie and Libs, well they will be wiped out. But I agree with you I wished there was something better than the SNP but at the moment they are all we have.

All fair points Drew and Sanshee - but the main thrust of my thread is about what's happening here. Any thoughts ? :-)

I feel sorry for anybody that has any problems down your way (anywhere in fact). Seems that it will create different levels of health status, those that have dosh and those that don't. God help you if you are in the don't category. I heard this morning they are also cutting financial aid to seriously hurt soldiers or recovering disabled people if they can walk more than 50 yards. What type of message is that, serve your country and find the real enemy at home, try to overcome ill health only to be crippled by a govt that doesn't care. I can never understand why this country has nuclear weapons surely this is one cut back we could make. The national health service need never worry again. (Is health in Wales devolved?)

Very good point Drew. It's disgusting and yet another example of this current bunch's attitude to the vulnerable - a nuisance, a drain on resources to be dealt with accordingly. Reminds me of a certain failed Austro-German painter. It's only a matter of degrees re. the far Right. The attitude is the same. I don't know about Wales, but I'm bloody glad that I have Irish citizenship re. access to Health Care as I get older.

But I wonder about the people who voted for the Liberal Democrats. A lot of what they believed in has been trashed. After the kick in the teeth they've had a dentist will be needed only to find they can't afford it. I wonder if Clegg and co forgot their own people just to get some personal glory. Somehow I think this point is correct. If they can do that to their own, what will they do to anyone else?

Aye, but this is par for the course, check out the election manifestos of the last few campaigns and you'll see the Lib Dems change their policies considerably every time. They've always just played populist politic, taken the weakest line of resistance and lost any underlying party philosophy years ago. We as voters have no idea who they bloody are because they don't have the first clue who they are either anymore. In power they will continue to twist in the breeze and will change their minds constantly as, as said, they have no underlying principles at all anymore. They should never have gotten rid of Charlie imo. We british love a drinker ;).
