We're gonna get more nuclear power stations whether we want them or not. People - when faced with the option of losing their television and refrigerator OR having a more nukes built - will choose the option that appears on the surface to least disrupt their life.

The only thing that i'm unsure of is whether the public will prefer to go back to coal-fired stations (by far the worst from a carbon-emissions standpoint) until that runs out, or jump straight to nuclear. France took the nuclear route, the USA appears to be preparing to head down the coal-road (though the nuke lobby is regaining strength).

Mind you, neither nukes nor coal (nor wind nor solar) can replace the other, non-electricity-generating, applications of oil / natural gas.
