Your right Sanshee, things have got a bit off topic. I think i may be largely responsible for starting a "does it work?" debate. A bit of over defensiveness on my part. As for your question. I`m not one for "Bid Pharma" conspiracies, although i can see why they would be alarmed by any system of medicine that promotes the restoration of genuine good health and freedom from drug dependency - not great for business. I think its a geniune idealogical conflict. For many, rightly or wrongly, Homeopathy is an insult to rational thinking and gets thrown in the same sin bin as creationism, climate change denial, and withcraft, and i think there is genuine fear and anger at the rise of what is seen as "psuedoscience", and a desire to see it removed from public life. Homeopathy (according to the WHO) is the fastest growing medical system in thew world. I believe this is a patient led growth. In other words people seeing it work and seeking it out for themselves. It is not heavily marketed in the same way as conventional pharmaceutical products are. Is this upsetting someone? (sorry i said i wasn`t into conspiracies didn`t i!) I agree why the obsesssion with Homeopathy? What don`t they pick on Acupuncture, osteopathy, choropractic? all of which recieve NHS funding and all of them based upon what some would consider psuedoscience.

tingltangl wrote: So you think that only rigourously trialled, well proven therapies should be paid for by the NHS? and that homeopathy needs to meet the same "high standards" expected of other treatmenmts? According to the British Medical Journals handbook of clinical evidence, the proportions of commonly used treatments supported by clinical evidence is as follows: 13% beneficial 23% likely to be beneficial 8% trade off between benefits and harm 6% unlikely to be benefial 4% likely to be ineffective or harmful 46% unknown effectiveness In light of this do you understand why i might see the obsession with the money spent on homeopathy a tad hypocritical.?? I don't think I said anything of the sort. Are you replying to the right person? In fact, if you look above I said, in response to another post.... "Hmmm. Well proof or not, it does seem that the benefit(s) that some (quite a lot actually) people get from homeopathy is genuine, even if the 'science' is not and I would think that's a better and worthier investment than a lot of things the Govt. chucks money at these days." I would say that's something of a thumbs up for it. Sorry for the off-topicness though, occupational habit round these parts.

Sorry moon cat!! - not directed at you at all. I have never posted on a forum before so bear with me while i get the hang of it. I just got the impression from this and other threads on the subject of homeopathy in the NHS that some were under the impression that "proper drugs" have been rigourously trialed and proven. I wanted to make the point that were the govt to throw homeopathy off the NHS for not meeting high enough standards of evidence, then for the sake of consistency they should also get rid of the other 42% of unproven interventions. Why the obsessive focus on homeopathy? and i agree the govt will probably ignore the report. http://www.britishhomeopathic.org/media_centre/news/glasgow_homeopathic_hospital_funding_to_continue.html |

Just used it for an ongoing bronchial problem that I've had for a few years recently. Gone. It worked for me.

Thanks. A friend of mine advised it. She's a very knowledgeable amateur. What she advised me to use re. a scaitica flare up worked wonderfully as well. I've used various herbal medicines myself, and would definitely recommend them. I also meditate, and work with crystals, mantras, and visualisations etc. I have no interest in arguing the toss with anyone. I admire mainstream medicine, it saved the life of someone very close to me. It's just that for me alternaitive IS complimentary. You use what is necessary and the most relevant. Trust your own experiences, as with all things. |
