My parents regarded me as a freak who was just being difficult when I turned veggie all those years ago, and I had to put up with all sorts of jokes. I used to vocalise about the issues, but it fell on deaf ears. As I settled into being veggie I stopped being so tubthumping and just got on with it. Over the years, as my parents have become aware of it as a wider issue than just their freaky son their attitude has changed. They now rarely eat red meat, and now have about two meals a week which are totally veggie . The sea-change in their attitude extends to having sympathy for the wider cause, as well as the health issues. I'm proud that people I thought were so irretrievably stuck in their ways have started realising that THEY are part of the problem too. It also proves to me that my parents are still capable of surprising me! Gawd bless 'em!
