Well, Shrimpy I'm even more proud of you now that I know you do actually love the taste/texture of meat. Turning veggie was easy for me in comparison coz I always hated meat anyway. High five to ya!

But it is still a dead animal which has been reared and killed solely for my consumption.

I just need to expand the horizon so that the texture element is taken care of - I'm sure that that is my problem not the taste as that really comes from all the flavourings except for the fattiness and blood! My taste buds are developing though.

Getting there slowly but it is easier every day.

I also go and visit my mother as often as possible and as she lives alone and is a ravishing meat eater she loves to make a bit more of an effort when I turn up. I consider that it is unsocial of me to not consume the wonderful offerings that she places in front of me. Also whenever I visit I can ensure that she is eating properly and has something herself to look forward to.

I am not gonna change her habits and I don't wish to.

Shrimp, I'm having trouble finding sprouts that have died a natural death, yet remain edible.

Not really.

Sympathise with the family angle tho'. My dad grins like the cat that got the cream when he's dishing out factory farmed meat at the BBQ, it's a working class treat, and he'll never change. I am the token family freak so to speak. Ho Hum.

My parents regarded me as a freak who was just being difficult when I turned veggie all those years ago, and I had to put up with all sorts of jokes. I used to vocalise about the issues, but it fell on deaf ears. As I settled into being veggie I stopped being so tubthumping and just got on with it. Over the years, as my parents have become aware of it as a wider issue than just their freaky son their attitude has changed. They now rarely eat red meat, and now have about two meals a week which are totally veggie . The sea-change in their attitude extends to having sympathy for the wider cause, as well as the health issues. I'm proud that people I thought were so irretrievably stuck in their ways have started realising that THEY are part of the problem too. It also proves to me that my parents are still capable of surprising me! Gawd bless 'em!
