Modern conservatism ....that's very much in evidence in certain areas of Manchester. One example is the Beech Rd area of Chorlton. A very small demographic mainly consisting of white middle class overqualified liberals between the ages of 20 and 40. Gridlock car issues in the area due to narrow roads of the original village but some not willing to give up the second car ... even baby buggies larger than the average family car. Competitive parenting. People who don't know how to queue quietly...threat of bourgeois violence in the air. Gift shops full of tat aimed at people with too much money. Art galleries displaying 'those splash pictures' which seem to be everywhere and which look like chemistry experiments gone wrong. Local produce groceries designed to cut down on food miles but with car parks bursting with nice cars. Bars full of hobbit like beardies drinking mead and listening to folk thinking that they're forward looking urbanites whilst a mile away some kid in a rough neighbourhood with real thirst is setting a blueprint for music yet to come.......

Although a good example of what you're getting at, Chorlton isn't that bad overall...has it's good points. I just like taking the piss out of it due to the quota of self righteousness per square mile.
