Did Texas execute an innocent man?
Sep 05, 2009, 12:56
There's little doubt in my mind that it's happened on multiple occasions, but this true story is a damning indictment of how pseudo-science, biased 'expert' witnesses, and the age old need some people have to find someone to punish for a tragedy put a man to death.
It's a compelling read, and a fascinating look at how arson investigations range from frighteningly ignorant to brilliant, as well. Scary how some people's fate rests in the hands of others who's 'expertise' is revealed to be built on myths and assumptions.

I have no doubt innocent people have been executed. The numbers alone, especially in Texas, would lead to a purely statistical probability.

This story is a good reminder of how the justice system can be blinded to it's own habits and prejudices. It can't even be trusted half the time to put the right people behind bars and keep them there, as the latest kidnapping story out of California proves. The man had a bloody GPS ankle monitor on the whole time he was keeping his imprisoned 'family' in the backyard... nobody did any real policework... just watched his blip move around his own property, oblivious to his activities, satisfied he wasn't in a school zone.
