Well Mr B....just come back from a wet weekend to find ur drivel on m'post....

No im not a fecking affluent parent...in fact im a single parent..working 3 days a week as a Homoeopath and claiming working parents tax benefit to subsidise mine and my sons exitence.
Steiner take this into account when charging the fees

Yes i cud choose the state school but i dont relish the idea of my son being molded into form that fits easily with their education sysytem. Ok state education gives them an academic 'strength' but only if ur lucky enough to get a teacher with enthusiasm and energy...bit luck of the draw nowadays.

Surely it would be better to follow the strengths and indiviuality of the child. If mine shows signs of wanting to learn more about 'academic' subjects, then it's pretty easy for me or the school to feed that need......educating ur child urself doesn't just stop when they enter school...u gotta be part of it...and personally thats how i like it :)

It's all about Anthroposophy me old feline :-)

or

http://skepdic.com/steiner.html

or just go to google ya lazy lump :-)

I am not sure how much of the possibly wackier of Steiner's ideas are still taught. Do they still teach that man has been here since the formation of the earth for example? Do they still teach of his beliefs in Atlantis?

Sorry GIW

I should have maybe considered that some HHrs would have kids at a Steiner school. Of course the standard schooling available in some parts of the UK is poor and can be seriously lacking in developing strengths in a child and make a kid feel inadequate ( I consider myself abit of a victim of a piss poor comp education on merseyside) . My marxist monster rerared its ugly head. Soz if you were offended.

Noone has mentioned was Steiner's thinking regarding the cyclical nature of the universe, he actively promoted expression in this manner, from architecture to personal expression via text books. I used to often visit Elmfield Steiner School, and it was marvellous to see the children not using ruled leaves, and writing in as many colours as they wanted, if they wanted to write about the world around them, they can express it how they wish/are best suited, rather than copying parrot-fashion in lines and rows. Keep that line serpentine!!!

When the school I taught at changed to national curriculum, I saved many handwritten and typed documents from Michael Wilson (they were being thrown into a skip!!) the pioneering colour therapist who was one of the schools founders. The stage in the assembly room had a gigantic 'cyclorama', a coloured amphitheatre rigged to lighting controllers (guess who blagged the voluntary light tech position ;-) , it rocked!!

I have many paintings saved from the skip also, from the 1930'-50's, in fact, one of these 'veil' paintings is the only thing I will hang in my bedroom. It is peace. Embodied

To me, that is.
