Tool for Self Deception?
Jul 22, 2000, 11:45
Here's one of my pet theories, can any of you enlightened mofos add your thoughts/feelings?...

Irony/Sarcasm has reached it's apex in the last decade. Youth culture is peppered with 'yeah, right..' 'like, do I care', 'whatever..' and grown ups opt for 'Oh yes, that's really going to work (optional snort)...I don't think!'

These are obvious examples, yet I can't help thinking that the rise in usage is in keeping with an increased need for self denial and the need to only half admit our real feelings, thereby shrouding our 'realness' in what is lamely considered to be 'wit'. realise that it takes courage to be open and candid. And I shan't close this with a cheap ironic gambit. Honestly.

'As if..' shit.

'Yeah right..'
