Bad to see someone as deluded as Flatsky. He says: "Am I stuck? Are you stuck? I do not own a car, I am not stuck in any road culture thanks Julian, perhaps it's just you."

Methinks this is a good example of someone who choses to overlook the fact that most of his food is delivered in great fuck off container wagons.

Methinks this is a good example of self-delusion and self-righteousness.

A mate of mine hated meat so he was a natural vegetarian. But after about five years, he'd get all sanctimonious about it though it weren't a chore for him, just his natural state.

Now if Flatsky has a job and needs to be in places for definite times and still gets it together without a car, then I admire him. And if he's got kids and takes them to school without a car, then I admire him even more.

What about it, Flatsky? Give us a bit more of your story mate. We'd be interested and unlike you we ain't looking to judge.Tell us all the secret coz I for one need as much imput as I can get

Cheers

I don't think he's deluded, I think he's become intolerably aware of a problem and can see no way out. I can certainly relate to that.

As Julian himself said around the Autogeddon period; "I'm not someone with a solution, just someone with complaints."

But we can hopefully help each other by at least providing an environment in which it's OK to discuss these things, throw ideas around and find support for our concerns.

Most of my friends would freak if I started going on at them about stuff I read here... At least we've got a common thread.

Whilst I think 'deluded' is too judgemental and insulting a word, anyone living in a Western country *is* stuck in a car culture whether they drive or not, in the same way that everyone in South Africa - racist or otherwise - was stuck in Apartheid culture.

Complaints are a good first step; you can't solve a problem until you see a problem. But only by personally acting outside of the systems you dislike do you start to make their destruction possible.

So Flatsky, top marks for steering your life in a direction you find worthy, and you demonstrate things that others would say are impossible. Nice one! But do recognise that we have *all* been duped into feeling dependence on things that ruin us.

Duck Call,
Why would most of your friends freak if you talked to them about what you talk about here? It's nice that you feel you've found people you have things in common with here, but you need to find some mates with common interests, or who will at least hear what you have to say without freaking out!
Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick, but surely nothing we are talking about would really freak any reasonable-minded individual out?

Well, I'm TRYING to upgrade my mates. Have to be careful though, if they get a whiff that whatever I'm on about has something to do with my Julian Cope fan-ness, that's it. Instant invalidation.

"Anti-car? Oh, Julian Cope did an album about being anti-car, didn't he?"

"Callanish? Oh you only want to go there because Julian Cope went there on the telly."

Anyone else get that? Bor-ring.
I should disguise my influences more ;-)
