Going Mobile...
Jul 04, 2000, 22:22
I've just heard on the news, that the forecast for 2003 is 'more mobile phones in the UK than there are people.' Are we mad?!

Seems every little wild hillock or tump shall soon be graced with an un-tennae! Technology is taking over, not how we imagined it back in the B-movies, with robots running amok on their makers, but with flesh and blood real people turning into machines that consume and update their needs daily with new products pouring out of the smiling factories! It's good to talk.

Mobile phones drive me mad!!!
There is nothing more annoying than having a conversation with someone over a meal/ in a pub etc and their phone ringing and suddenly the conversation is interrupted by them answering the call, then all of a sudden you're left unwillingly evesdropping on one side of another conversation.
I don't let people get away with doing this more than once, but it still happens.
A new mobile phone etiquette is needed, I think.
Just had to get that off my chest! Thanks.

Mobile oddness indeed. Still, they have their uses i.e breakdown in the middle of nowhere on your tod situations etc. Plus the unintentional moments of comedy, as in 6 people sat round a table outside a bar recently all talking on their phones and not to each other, Weirdsville.
Apart from that, radiation aside, I wonder about the brain damage caused by the walking 'through' a million crap conversations in the ether! Imagine occupying the same head-space as "I'm out side the newsagents now." etc.

They have their uses especially if your activities are 'covert' in nature.
You can buy on for twenty odd quid
and get one free. This can be very useful.
I agree with the general sentiment though.

Hey, yeah...covert activities! Amongst the other activities you probably mean by that, it reminded me that all the scare-the-pants-off-Thatcher raves I used to go to a few years back couldn't have happened without them.

The problem with mobile phones are the users, not the phone.

As with all technology, once it's hoisted upon us, we don't know how we got by without it! Life must have been so boring....I'm outside the newsagents right now...

The mobile phone is one thing I have had no trouble avoiding.

Another one is East17enders!

That's OK 'coz there's probably someone somewhere right now phoning their mate from a pub in Walthamstow updating them with top Queen Vic plot developments.

Somewhere in a parrallell universe there is a guy like me driving a big fuck off american gas guzzler listening to Garth Brooks and slagging off 'queers' and 'injuns', stuffing his face with a Big Muc, goes by the name of Efrom. I need slome seep.

There's talk of introducing transmitters on the London Underground now. What a nightmare! It's one of the few places to escape them at the moment. I can just imagine sitting next to people on loud trains shouting into their phones to be heard. Yeuch!
Oh God, I'm starting to sound like my Dad. Sorry!...
