Why America WILL invade Iran?
Apr 21, 2006, 17:39
...the same reason they invaded Iraq. Iraq was selling it's oil in euros rather than the usual dollars. Immediately after the invasion they switched back to dollars. Funny that.

Now, Iran has plans to switch its oil sales from dollars to euros. The date it's going to start keeps being moved back (previously March 2006), but will probably be soon. China, amongst others, have already agreed to go with this and are cutting their dollar reserves.

The implications for America's economy of more and more oil being sold in euros are disastrous. As it stands the US can print money and buy oil: this is the fundamental reason for their prosperity over the last century. Imagine if all those dollars round the world start coming home because no one needs them to buy oil? It's value would collapse. Worse still, the US would have to buy euros to buy oil with it's devalued currency. It's already lost 25% of it's value against the euro in the last 5 years.

Russia has also threatened a switch to the euro, therefore the US will do almost anything to keep them sweet. After all, invasion is unthinkable. Now, as for Iraq who don't have nukes....

The US is staring decline in the face and only has it's armed might left to try and maintain it's hegemony. This can be likened to the last days of another empire: that of the Romans.

Is it clear now why (US citizen) Rupert Murdoch's papers are so anti-euro?
