Since the earliest news this morning they've been predicitng terrible things on the streets of the capitol. They seem almost disappointed that the clown army are having a 'carnival' and not firebombing McDs. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4646491.stm The MPH march/rally on Saturday was a great event. I've never seen so many police. Felt like miner. Riot gear etc. Shudder to think what the overtime bill is gonna be. Apparently a bunch of them had to ask the marchers on Saturday where somewhere was that they all been called to to provide assistance.

Yeah I remember the row about the Russian orphanages. I remember it ended with you promising to "respond in full" to Merrick's last message. http://www.headheritage.co.uk/headtohead/show.php?show=message&id=276438 But you didn't. > > Posting meaningless slogans won't do a thing... > etc. > Constantly telling others that they don't post what you want to read seems endlessly fascinating to you, but it does begin to get annoying to others. Especially when that's *all* you post.

what are you doing about it? Not a lot I have to admit, not sure what I can/should do. One thing I won't do is go to an empty, meaningless pop concert and then forget about the real reason behind it very quickly

I try to watch what I buy, etc. Make simple, informed choices. I'm not asking for a medal or a paper hat here, anyone can do that and I suspect that plenty of folk here do more than me. Do what you can Lemon.

>>Police in Edinburgh have accused a "hard core" of anarchist protesters of being "irresponsible" and putting people's safety at risk. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4646491.stm Look at the picture of Princes St there. There's about ten folk

Can you imagine the front page of any national newspaper emblazoned with a six foot high headline of "Protest march passes without incident"?

No-one seems to be pointing out that the same people were on the marches on Saturday & Sunday. There had to be some different element in there.

In all fairness GJ I think the Lemon vs Merrick argument had reached the point when silence was the best option!

And, I don't agree with all of it, but it makes some interesting points. " "Make Poverty History" someone onstage shouts at Live 8 (or was it Glastonbury?) The crowd all cheer in unison. Then Lenny Henry makes a joke about being confused for the guy from the Halifax adverts and shouts out part of their advertsing jingle. The crowd complete the slogan in unison, like a bunch of nodding dogs. Were Live 8 and the march in Edinburgh a protest? Hardly, if they were supported by the government, the entire political class, all major religious groups, all major media outlets, and even the Police. If everybody supports it, who is against it? Even George Bush, seen as the bad guy because he wouldn't commit to increasing debt relief, has now won praise from the holy trinity of Blair, Bono and Geldof."
