Beanfield 20th anniversary Nottingham April 20th
Apr 19, 2005, 12:14
Hi all,
I'm sure the impending 20th anniversary of the Battle of the Beanfield hasn't slipped anyone's memory - and if it's something you don't know about, the basic story is that on 1st June 1985, a convoy of vehicles en route to Stonehenge to establish the 12th annual free festival was set upon and 'decommissioned' with extreme brutality by the police.
The next event to commemorate the anniversary is as follows:

Wednesday 20 April, 8 pm
'Stonehenge: Celebration and Subversion'
SUMAC, 245 Gladstone St, Nottingham, NG7 6HX
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Battle of the Beanfield, SUMAC will be showing 'Operation Solstice', the acclaimed 1991 documentary about the Beanfield, with a talk by Andy Worthington, author of 'Stonehenge: Celebration and Subversion', on the opening night of an exhibition of photos of the Stonehenge Free Festival and the Battle of the Beanfield (including photos by Tash) that runs until Sunday 8 May.

Much more to come in the following months, including:
May 25: Cowley Club, Brighton
May 30: Kingston Green Fair
June 2: Stroud Open Studios
June 4: Strawberry Fair, Cambridge
June 7: South London Radical History Group, Pullens Centre, Crampton Street, Elephant & Castle
June 24-26: Glastonbury Festival
Details nearer the time.

All the best,
Andy
