Work (again)
Jul 19, 2004, 04:09
I note that the CBI is calling for the retirement age to be raised to 70. I've also just read Merrick's "Working or a living" post at norlonto...

This is very close to the Bob Black article I linked in an earlier thread. Workers of the world, relax, indeed.

Frankly, I feel like I have my head up my arse. I'm about to spend another 5 days doing a job that I increasingly despise, yet I lack, what? the imagination? the motivation? to find any alternative.

I suppose we're all chained to some extent to our commitments. When I was single, I spent 5 years doing nothing productive, and living in debt. Now I have a wife and family, and if I don't due my daily grind, we all suffer.

Currently, society offers a choice between drudgery on the one hand, and a mixture of poverty and intimidation on the other.

Yet how the hell do we change society?

I see it's something I'm going to have to work on.
