You can just imagine those in charge at the Met talking the day before the Jubilee parade:
"Right, we've got to keep those anti-royalists away from the parade. I don't care at what cost."
"Ooh, about 80 grand?"
"Done."
£80,000 is peanuts and the police know it. This was all about stifling democratic protest, and it just highlights the incongruity and incompatability of having a monarchy and being a 'free' democracy at the same time.
