Evidence of early settlement
Oct 20, 2018, 17:21
We went to a talk by George MacPhereson, a well known historian/storyteller here on Skye. I asked him about any evidence of early settlement on our plot at Hamara, Glendale as I have found a lot of pottery here though when we bought the land ten years ago there was no evidence of any settlement. He said that it was thought that there was a Viking settlement ( Loch Pooltiel is supposed to be named after a Viking chieftain named Tiel) but also said that he thought there had been a stone circle here which was removed in the 1820s. Does anyone have any information on this or any other comments? It is sometimes hard to know what is fact and what is fiction!
