LIDAR UK Map?
Sep 11, 2017, 10:13
Hi,

I have used the LIDAR map at https://houseprices.io/lab/lidar/map which is very useful but doesn't cover everywhere- does anyone know of a similar resource that is as easy to access and use that provides more comprehensive or up-to-date coverage?

I know date can be downloaded, but is there an existing composite that improves on the above map?

Many thanks,

G

The Environment Agency has Lidar data for England and Wales that they make freely available. See http://environment.data.gov.uk/ds/survey/#/survey

Unfortunately their equivalent in Scotland (the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, SEPA) do not make similar data freely available for Scotland.

If you are willing to pay, you can purchase high resolution Lidar data from this company:

further to my previous reply , I have now found out that the Scottish Government has started to make LIDAR data publically available via the following web portal. Only covers very limited areas for the moment.

Nifty find with the Scottish stuff. What kinda software do I need to install to work with and view these datasets?

You'll need some GIS software, for example QGIS (freeware)

My that is a massive software download. My creaking Dell Optiplex, although with a healthy new hard drive, is toiling with the installation.
Just trying to open one of the tiles now. Taking a while. Any tips?
Just persevere...?

Not sure to be honest. I am not in any way an expert, although I work with people who are (at the University of Glasgow). This type of software will probably need a decent machine with a good graphics card. I know people who have worked with the Lidar data but havent done so myself. If you have any specific questions let me know and I could ask.
