George Monboit hits the nail on the head. No apologies for the political slant, apposite for this forum too.

Bang on, as he generally is. To quote Mr Cope "It's a barbed wire fence, which side do you choose?"

Sadly the argument will now be spun, legitimised and normalised that in these times Britain can't afford not to strip away environmental protection, to reintroduce banned pesticides and fertilisers, to frack.

... and to that end the Governments agents such as Historic England have come up with new "official" definitions and guidelines on what's acceptable.

BTW, a little quiz: why is the name on the side of the digger significant?

There is a third way and up here the Govt opposes fracking along with the SGP. Up to down south to vote the Westminster lot out.

Well the fracking licenses have been doled out to five companies in North York and it is only the public who stand in the way of the whole business, we should all move to Scotland probably;). But then abandoning ship is not what it is all about.
Solsbury Hill protest; there was a short video made by Adrian Arbib (he also wrote a book). Changed the history of road-building at the time, along with the Newbury Road protest. I suspect the furore made over the tunnel for Stonehenge will have a similar effect..
