Waddon Caves.

" Alton Road (Croydon). A long flat-bottomed, V-shaped trench, c8-16 ft deep, led down to the stream now in the municipal park. Off this were a number of underground houses wit doors and rough-worked lintels cut in the chalk. Excavation in 1902 produced a scatter of Neolithic material, but a larger amount of Iron Age and particularly Belgic pottery. Occupation continued to the C3-4AD. This odd group of structures recalls the native fogus of the South-West"
(Nairn, Pevsner, Cherry. The Buildings of England, Surrey)

Anecdotal evidence on line but nothing about the excavation. Are there any updates or has anyone visited?

http://www.wcms.org.uk/cgi-bin/wcmsarchive.pl?archid=cccp_pws_beddington1840_jan1979
but it's 30 years old.
