Summer Solstice Alignments in Ireland
Jun 14, 2012, 10:58
Being very lazy here but anyone got any recommendations for summer solstice alignments in ireland. It looks as if I will be off for the day and can travel.

Im wondering maybe about Sligo for the sunset at carrowkeel or maybe one of the stone circles in west cork?

I've scrutinising the superb chart "The Stone Circles of Cork & Kerry" drawn and written by Jack Roberts. He writes There are over 100 Stone Circles in the Cork/Kerry region, one of the largest concentrations of Stone Circles in Europe. They are of an unique type with well defined Astronomical Orientation that often marks special dates in the Ancient Astronomical Calendar. He lists and describes 101 sites with beautiful hand drawn illustrations for 39 of them - with each drawing he indicates the solar (sometimes lunar) alignments. The majority of them seem to be winter solstice or equinox alignments though a few are listed as having multiple alignments - Drombeg for example.
