Works very well in Ireland this hint :) also my advice is to ask the farmer/landowner's permission to enter the land where possible...ask locals when close to the site but still no cigar (Reenascreena springs to mind here...a site I found v.difficult to pin down)....I've often found out about other local treasures not in the guidebooks by simply having the nerve to look like a stone obssessed madwoman and asking random strangers to help me on my quest...I often find this adds to my whole experience and enjoy my visit all the more knowing I'm not gonna encounter some angry landowner who'll tell me off for trespassing....even though sometimes this is unavoidable when you've no idea who to ask, and the stones are visible just a scramble over a gate away........soooo alluring....or is that just me??!!
