It got me thinking of rock art and cup marks, much of which, what I've seen anyway, has this same 'similar' look to it, like it was a prerequesite and carved to a standing template to order. I know you've been to Egypt LS, did you notice that and George, does rock art have this 'set' look to it on many occasions?
Considering the large number of "Atlantic " rock art panels and the limited amount of motifs used , most designs with the exception of single to 3 cup marks tend to be unlike others , whereas hieroglyphs are clearly a non arbitrary formal system .The production is entirely different too , rock art is produced by rock on rock with the surface and markings varying between deep to shallow and smooth to rotten . A better comparison might be with similarly engraved Egyptian rock art rather than hieroglyphics which are much less crude in production or canvas .
