Well, except for Callanish: there are many smaller rings and at least one cairn within long walking distance. It's a complex, and if weather permits, explore the area, not just Callanish I. But anyhow...
While on Orkney, ask about Jolly's kippers. Divinity. http://www.jollyfish.co.uk/ . We stayed in Mrs. Hourie's Flotterston House B&B. (No idea if it's still available. I wonder if they ever found the Black Book?) She is a daughter of the Jolly's, and served their kippers every morning. We stopped in at the store/smokehouse and met the little dog. I'd go back to Orkney just for their kippers!
