I guess everyone is entitled to a ‘once in a lifetime’ holiday and although I have had to twice previously postpone mine, all being well I will begin my adventure at 5.00am Saturday morning. The bags are packed!
Where am I going? – a ‘3 island special’ – Western Isles / Orkney / Shetland.
I am lucky enough to be spending 5 days on the Western Isles, 8 days on Orkney and 5 days on Shetland. It is going to cost me a small fortune but I suppose this is a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip – I hope it’s worth it!
I have been planning this holiday for at least 9 months and plan to visit as many ‘old stones’ as possible. In addition to the prehistoric stuff I am also really looking forward to the scenery. Some of the photos I have seen look spectacular.
It’s strange to think that after all this time I am on the verge of going to somewhere I have dreamed about for years. I must admit it all seems a bit surreal at the moment. I also have mixed emotions: excitement – certainly – but also a bit of nerves for some reason. Will the trip live up to my expectations? Will I be disappointed? I guess I will know soon enough.
There are so many places I am looking forward to visiting it is difficult to pick ‘must see’ but obvious Callanish, Tomb of Eagles, Skara Brae, Maes Howe, Dwarfie Stane, Mousa Broch etc etc. I am sure there will be many more highlights by the time I am back!
I will let you know how I got on – hope I don’t bore you all too much!
