Great settings but otherwise what a let down being served up 'I think' and how many pairs of shoes a presenter can wear in an hour. This would have been a good programme had they followed the example of 'How God made the English', and importantly perhaps Diarmaid MacCulloch seems to have just the one rather beaten and much relied on hat!

Episode 2:
Aphrodite, Sappho, the Vestal Virgins, and the role of women in the early Christian church ... Bravo for Bettany Hughes, she was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and even managed to remain polite in the face of a female Catholic scholar who was unbelievably blinkered in her views.

I did keep a close eye on the shoe situation, only noticed a sensible pair of boots and a pair of sandals ... a bit disappointing.

PS: Well done Chelsea!!!
