We were interested by this part of the Pastscape description :-
"Although hole stones are not generally associated with stone circles they have been shown to form part of these monuments in Scotland."
Any idea which Scottish circles they are refering to?
The only ones that come to mind are at Ballymeanoch , Craw Stone (Wigtownshire ) and Odin Stone Orkney none of which were components of stone circles .
Oh I've just come across this. George, you're into alignments aren't you. This is from the Cornwall Society and they are suggesting the holed stone was part of the outer circle of stones and used for observation. It’s all very vague Roy “sitting near the centre of the circle “ no foresights no data etc. suffice to say that none of the sites mentioned are noted in the literature as being aligned on the standstill and this was written 13 years ago .
