Is Avebury the Great Nemeton

I read a quote on the lost Great Nemeton of the Druids being in North Umbria, i thought im not buying that for it sounds like bad directions to Avebury. A lots of sites and tour guides always give directions of north of Stonehenge is the henge of Avebury etc. Could this be a mistranslationm or the clumsy fingerprint of a monk altering history for his own ends. Anyone know where this passage is from.
